アルフラージの映像インスタレーション作品「Hadigat al Umma, Once Upon A Time」について、また、そこで用いられているサウンドについて議論を展開させます。
アルフラージは、イラクのバグダードで賑わいをみせるカフェで、友人と多くの時間を過ごしました。ある時、店内で流れていたウム・クルスーム（Umm Kulthum、アラブ諸国で今なお愛されている女性歌手）が歌う「アルフ・レイラ・ワ・レイラ」（千夜一夜）を聞き、自身の作品に流れるサウンドのアイディアにしたと言っています。現在は、その郷愁や自らの感情をこらえるような、新しい作品を制作しています。
In this interview, artist Sadik Kwaish Alfraji talks to the curator Abdellah Karroum about his work and the use of the sound in his video installation, “Hadiqat al Umma, Once Upon A Time.”
The initial sound track is inspired by a public place of the nation in Baghdad, where a popular café, the artist used to spend hours with his friend, was playing Umm Kulthum’s song, “Alf Lailah wa Laila” (one thousand and one night). After several years from his video work, Sadik is now working on a new sound track in an attempt to resist his own feelings and nostalgia.
